Preoperative Testing
Your surgeon will notify your Primary Care Physician about any preoperative testing requirements. All testing should be ordered/performed by your Primary Care Physician.
Preoperative Instructions
Preoperative clearance from your Primary Care Physician is required within 30 days of surgery. Please see “Patient Forms – Pre-operative Form.”
The Center’s staff will call you the day before your operation to gather necessary information. Please bring your insurance information and your Social Security number on the day of your surgery.
Financial Issues
Vision One Laser & Surgery Center charges a predetermined facility fee for each procedure. These predetermined fees account for a number of factors such as the amount of time typically required in the operating/treatment and recovery rooms, the amounts and types of supplies and drugs used during and after a procedure.
- Charges for the professional services of your surgeon and anesthetist are not included in these pre-determined facility fees. In most cases, you or your insurance company will be billed separately for these services.
Insurance
- Coverage for medical care and procedures varies according to each insurance company and its policies. Due to the large number of insurance companies, the employees and doctors of Vision One cannot know all the details of your individual policy as we participate with many insurance companies.
- Patients are responsible for referrals (if needed), copays, deductibles and/or any other charges that their insurance does not pay. That is why the patient should know their insurance policy. If you have any doubts, please contact your insurance company.
- We will bill your insurance for your procedure. If your procedure needs to be pre- certified, please ask your surgeon’s office to do that. As insurance companies tell us, “pre-certification of a procedure is not a guarantee of payment of benefits.” Insurance companies do not guarantee any payment of any charge until they are submitted and reviewed. If your insurance company asks us for additional information to review your claim, we will send it.
- Charges for cosmetic surgery procedures not covered by insurance typically must be paid in full by the day
of the procedure. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, teller’s check, certified check or money order.
For Your Procedure
Please be aware for your procedure at Vision One there will be three or four bills associated with each visit.
- Your surgeon’s fee
- Eye Surgery Center of Chester County dba Vision One Laser and Surgery Center – the facility fee. There is usually an outpatient co- pay due the day of surgery according to most insurance policies. If you are unsure you have a copay, please contact your insurance company as your surgery may be cancelled for non-payment.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover Card, cash, cashier’s checks or personal checks ten days in advance. - AnesthiPlus – the anesthesiologist’s fee.
- CBL or Quest Pathology Fee. These are pathology lab fees that may be charged for some surgeries (not usually for cataract, retina or pain management surgery). PLEASE BE NOTE, THERE WILL BE AN OUTPATIENT COPAY FOR EACH OF THESE SERVICES.
The Day Before Your Operation
- The evening before your operation, you may eat or drink anything you choose until midnight. After that, NOTHING- not even gum or hard candy-should be eaten. You will be given specific instructions about liquids at the time of your preoperative visit.
- Patients not receiving anesthesia care may receive different instructions from their surgeon or from our staff during the phone call the day before your procedure.
- Arrange for an adult to bring you to the Center and take you home. This person must be available AT ALL TIMES either by phone or in the Center.
- Call your surgeon if you develop a sore throat, cold or fever.
- Arrange to have someone at home with you after your operation
Failure to observe the above requirements may result in cancellation of your operation or procedure.
The Day of Your Operation
- Wear loose clothing and low-heeled shoes. Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
- Contact lenses should not be worn on the day of surgery; wear your glasses.
- A patient gown, cap, and shoe covers will be provided for you, as will a place in which to store your clothing.

After Your Operation
After your operation, you will be taken to the Recovery Room where you will be monitored and cared for until you are ready to go home. The amount of time patients stay in the recovery room is highly variable (depending on individual differences, surgical procedure and type of anesthesia), but usually ranges from 30 to 90 minutes.
In the event of unforeseen complications, you will be admitted to the hospital. Center staff will discuss this with you and your escort.
An adult MUST take you home. You may not drive yourself home or take public transportation.
You will receive instruction about your care at home. It is not unusual to feel slightly dizzy or sleepy after receiving anesthesia and undergoing and operation.
A nurse from the Center will call you the day after your operation to evaluate your recovery and answer any question you may have.
Feel free to call us if you have any questions or comments before, during or after you operation.
We look forward to caring for you.
